Mission Beach ~ ~ sunrise !

~ South Mission Beach ~
one of the world's undiscovered tropical gems

just 6 minutes from Yamacutta

Over 13 Kilometres of pristine sandy palm-fringed beach link North Mission Beach, Wongaling and South Mission Beach.

Be spellbound  ~
watch the early morning
sunrise from behind Dunk Island
(just 4Km offshore)

Enjoying a latté at one of the pavement cafés in North Mission.
Life here is uncomplicated and relaxed. If this is your first visit to North Queensland (and it won't be your last!) you will find the locals exceptionally warm and genuinely friendly.

Mission Beach is equipped with a small supermarket, chemist, post office, butcher, patisserie, hairdresser, office supplies, clothes boutiques, bottle shop (off-licence), art gallery, health food store and internet café as well as great restaurants offering aussie, chinese, indian and international styles.

Call in at the Mission Beach Wet Tropics Visitor Information Centre and the adjoining Environment Centre (C4) which houses excellent rainforest and cassowary displays and a rainforest plant nursery.

The beach is a great place to stretch your eyes, your mind and of course your legs.

With such an expanse of open space, it is never remotely crowded.
More often than not you will walk for 10 or 20 minutes without passing anyone!

The tropical temperatures mean that you can enjoy the beach throughout the year.

  • From April to October, the warm sea is heaven for swimming and watersports.
  • From November to April the Yamacutta Rainforest Lagoon Pool is the place for swimming.

(From November to April you can't swim in the sea due to the presence of deadly Box Jelly Fish ~ unless you choose to swim in the special stinger net enclosure & wear a protective stinger suit
    .
Take no chances.. you are unlikely to survive the venomous sting without immediate treatment.)

For a little more sophistication visit "The Horizon", in a spectacular location on a hill above South Mission Beach overlooking Dunk and Bedarra Islands.
Combine a light lunch and a swim, or enjoy great evening dining on the terrace restaurant.
